THIS IS US, is a initiative that seeks to repurpose an unused space in Walthamstow Central into a vibrant hub for young people aged 14-25. The Cotch project is designed to offer a blend of lifestyle and life skills workshops, business and homework clubs, co-working spaces, and creative opportunities, all led by
our industry professionals and mentors.

Understanding the business side of creative
industries is crucial for any aspiring professional. THIS IS US introduces young participants to business management, entrepreneurship, and start-up culture fundamentals. They will take on roles that involve planning, organising, and running the space’s various projects and events.

BUSINESS MANAGEMENT

Participants interested in design or fashion will find THIS IS US an ideal environment to explore creativity. They will engage in activities such as organising fashion shows, designing merchandise for the space, and even managing a small-scale production line as local designers—with workshops led by professionals in this field.

PRNT DESIGN & FASHION

Podcasting has become a powerful medium for storytelling, journalism, and personal expression. At THIS IS US, young people will learn the ins and outs of podcasting, from conceptualisation to production and distribution. They will manage a dedicated pop-up podcasting studio, create content that resonates with their community, and develop audio editing, sound design and marketing skills.

PODCASTING

Graphic Design is a broad visual skill that requires training of the eye and understanding the principles in design from ideation to layout. Participants will learn to use industry-standard design software like Adobe Illustrator, Photoshop, and InDesign. Understand key design principles such as color theory, typography, and layout design.

Digital and Print Media, along with creating designs for both digital platforms (websites, social media) and print media such as Zines, Posters, Brochures.

GRAPHIC DESIGN

Participants interested in Photography in this space will gain some technical skills, learning the fundamentals of camera operation, including settings such as aperture, shutter speed, and ISO. Master the use of different types of lenses and photographic equipment.

Understand the principles of framing, lighting, and composition to create visually compelling images. Gain a proficiency in editing software like Adobe Photoshop and Lightroom to enhance and refine photographs.

PHOTOGRAPHY

In our Media Content Creation program, young people will develop a range of valuable skills. They will learn the basics of video production, including scripting, filming, and editing, and gain proficiency in audio production by recording and editing audio for various types of media content. Additionally, participants will understand how to develop content strategies using Virtual Reality technologies that engage audiences and deliver clear messages.
